Toledo Soap Co. - small batch soap, handmade in the Glass City.

This bar is special.

Amyris is a luxury oil, derived from a tropical tree; is it often used as a small part of a larger perfume recipe. Here at Toledo Soap Co., I wanted you to be able to experience the full beauty of this oil's rich, complex scent, purely on its own. This essential oil is expensive, easily 5 times the price of my other oils, and that is reflected in the bar price. But this scent is worth it.

Firm and long-lasting, these bars create a delightfully bubbly lather. Softly scented, they will release the deep, smokey aroma of amyris oil upon use. The color for this batch is achieved with a small amount of activated charcoal. The color perfectly complements the scent of amyris and brings to mind the color of glowing, sunlit woodsmoke on golden summer evenings.

INGREDIENTS: A gentle handcrafted soap, it is made with organic extra virgin olive oil, organic and sustainably sourced coconut oil, sodium hydroxide*, amyris essential oil, and activated charcoal. Each bar is hand cut to approximately 3.5 ounces (100g).

As simple and sustainable as possible is the goal of Toledo Soap Co.

Hope you enjoy!

*sodium hydroxide (lye), is the magic that turns oils into soap. Through a process called saponification, the lye and oils mix to form an entirely new substance - soap! None of the lye is left after the saponification process is finished; the lye and oil molecules have broken each other apart and reformed into soap and glycerin, a soothing, natural humectant. Additionally, I add more oil than is needed for my recipe (called superfatting) to create a bar that is gentle and hydrating.
