An awesome collaboration with Patron Saints Brewery here in Toledo, Ohio, this recipe replaces the water usually used in the soap making process for a full amount of their excellent Saint John IPA!
No other colorant has been added - this is all beer right here! The scent is a really lovely combination of the yeasty beer scent and a blend of pine, lemongrass, lavender and litsea cubeba essential oils.
If you're curious about the scent, here are a couple testimonials:
"The patron saint soap is probably one of the best smelling soaps I've tried." - Jake L.
"I really, really am enjoying the scent of the beer bar soap!! ... It reminds me of a seasonal scent this time of year!" - Julie O.
"Oh wow, I LOVE this!" - Brian
Also, the beer in the soap is more than just a fun addition. Beer changes the feel of the soap, making for an even creamier, richer lather than normal, and my recipe is already ultra rich! It still rinses away cleanly, leaving you with a really enjoyable soaping experience. Try some today!
INGREDIENTS: A gentle handcrafted soap, it is made with organic extra virgin olive oil, organic and sustainably sourced coconut oil, Patron Saints Brewery Saint John IPA, sodium hydroxide*, essential oil blend and kaolin clay. Each bar is hand cut to approximately 3.5 ounces (100g).
*sodium hydroxide (lye), is the magic that turns oils into soap. Through a process called saponification, the lye and oils mix to form an entirely new substance - soap! None of the lye is left after the saponification process is finished; the lye and oil molecules have broken each other apart and reformed into soap and glycerin, a soothing, natural humectant. Additionally, I add more oil than is needed for my recipe (called superfatting) to create a bar that is gentle and hydrating.
